Pirate101 Companion Tier List: Who to Train First

How to read companion value

Training points are the scarce resource, so companion value is simple: does this unit still make your first-three lineup at endgame? Companions with unique buffs, guaranteed story relevance, or top-tier talents deserve points early. Filler crew you outgrow by mid-game should stay benched no matter how cool the hat is.

The universal keepers

Every class gets a handful of story companions that stay relevant forever. Your class-specific starter trio generally includes at least one endgame unit, and the major storyline recruits from the Valencia and Marleybone arcs are near-universal keepers. When in doubt, favor companions with crowd control or team-wide buffs over pure damage bodies.

Class-by-class priorities

Buccaneers want their heavy bruisers trained first since they anchor the front line. Musketeers and Privateers get more from support and control units that protect their ranged game. Swashbucklers and Witchdoctors should prioritize their signature high-damage recruits and let tanky filler catch up later.

Training point discipline

Points refund rarely, so treat every spend as permanent. A good rule: never train a companion you have not used in ten real fights. The bench tells you who earns investment better than any tier list, including this one.
